Largesse Tourney, Year 2!

Share it Please

This past January at the Twelfth Night event I coordinated the second Pentamere largesse tourney!  This is a tournament to make sets of a dozen items to be donated to somewhere in the Middle Kingdom - the crown, or a more local group (Barony, Canton, etc), so that they have prizes to give out.

I apologize for the poor quality of some of the photos, but I wanted to share it all anyway. This year, we had 30 dozens of largesse made by 13 participants, with 3 of those participants completing the Over the Top Award.

Scroll through the page to see the table of instructions and photos of all the largesse made this year.  If you want more details about setting up this tourney, also check out my notes from last year.

Start making your items for this year's tourney!  At Twelfth Night January 2017: Gaming Theme - there's an extra prize winner!  In addition to the usual Royal/Baron(ess) choice, there is also a Gamer's Choice.  To fit with the event theme of medieval gaming, if you make a set of largesse with a gaming theme, the Autocrat might choose you to win the Gamer's Choice (pick 1 item from 3 other entries to take home as a prize).

Want to help your Kingdom but don't feel like making a dozen items?  Volunteer to be an Over the Top Award prize maker!  All entrants who make 6 solo entries (72 items!) get to receive a commission from a volunteer prize maker.  Volunteer to make one of those commissions with whatever specifications you want (For example: "Custom Kumihimo: A round braid up to 16 strands and 8 feet in length. Cotton DMC is free or you can provide your own materials."), or make an extra-special item as a prize.  The red bag with the green dragon was donated as an Over the Top Award prize last year.

The set-up table: rules and instructions for entrants and populace; the bag for name slips for the prize pool drawing; beans and cups for the populace bean count; paper and pens; Kingdom thank you cards.

These are the leather burned tokens I made for the various Royal and Baronial pairs to choose their prize winners.  They put it in the bean count cup of the person they wanted to win their prize.  They are all based on the heraldry of their respective group.

And now for photos of the entrants!

The cups below doubled as an A&S entry at Pennsic last year - six pairs of cups, all based on real cups made in SCA period.

Draco Invictus - the motto of the Middle Kingdom!

What are you planning for next year?  I'm excited!
