My garden is growing! I have confirmation that at least a couple things in it are going well. Above you can see the cute little tomato buds on the largest of my tomato plants! Below is a picture of the first thing I know is a weed. Here starts the weeding...
Tiny kale plants! These are about the size of a quarter, but it's tiny kale! With most of the little green things in the garden I can't tell what the heck they are, but this I know is kale. Yay!
And now question time: what's this? Is this a weed? I'm seeing it in a few different areas of the garden, which is making me think it's a weed, because I have the different plants types separated fairly well.
The rest of my life right now is mostly being taken up with making armor. I'm trying SCA heavy armored combat this summer to see if I would like to do spear crossover at Pennsic ("crossover" is when a primarily rapier fighter does heavy fighting, or vice versa). My stipulation was that I didn't want to have to spend much money in order to put gear together - if I could cobble together armor from materials I have on hand and labor, I would try it, but I didn't want to spend a lot of money creating something I might not want to do after I try it out.
Thankfully, DeForest had a lot of really nice armor pieces hidden away in the shed. I have needed to slightly alter and repair a few bits of it, and I'm having to make arm guards and gauntlets. I work with my hands and they are very important to me, so I wanted to make full hardened leather gauntlets to protect them as best I can from injury. Below is the cardboard mock-up I made! Each gauntlet has 9 hardened leather pieces. The first gauntlet is almost done! I'm really happy with how they are turning out. I will post pictures of the process sometime. ~Kell
